How Volkswagen is Helping in the Fight Against COVID-19

Volkswagen knows that it’s part of its responsibility as a global leader to help people and communities in times of need. That has been very much the case throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, which Volkswagen is helping to fight against using its manufacturing and logistical know-how.

VW is teaming with heavyweights like Dow, Whirlpool, and Magna to build essential PPE like respirator hoods, air-purifying respirators, and reusable medical gowns. A taskforce out of its Chattanooga, Tennessee, manufacturing plant is working diligently on these efforts and to assist other endeavors. Notably, the VW taskforce worked with seat supplier Faurecia to launch a personal protective equipment production line that is now capable of producing 1 million N95 masks and 50,000 reusable gowns a week.

That’s just how Volkswagen is helping fight against COVID-19 at home. In Germany, VW was able to redirect a large supply of PPE back to Europe when the outbreak began in March. With teamwork and determination, a massive shipment of $40 million in equipment was routed to Europe in just 72 hours — about half the time it would normally take to set up.

VW is extending its efforts to combat coronavirus to dealerships like Gossett Volkswagen of Germantown.
