The Volkswagen Tarok pickup truck debuted last year at the Sao Paolo International Motor Show, the perfect location as the truck is currently slated only for the South American market. However, Volkswagen may someday soon bring a compact pickup truck to the United States. To gauge how well it would be received, VW unveiled the new Tarok at the New York International Auto Show back in April.
The new Tarok pickup is powered by a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged and direct-injection TSI® engine, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and built on a 4Motion all-wheel drive platform. This engine delivers 147 horsepower.
The Tarok truck is a compact — making it incredibly small compared to some of the American pickup trucks we’re used to. But the market is heading toward smaller trucks (marked by the rise in midsizers), making the Tarok’s 72 inches in width, 66 inches in height, and 117.7-inch wheelbase perfectly suited for everyday truck drivers.
What is most unique about the Volkswagen Tarok is its variable load area. Rather than accessing the bed of the pickup only by opening the tailgate, the Tarok also allows you to fold down the bottom of the rear panel of the passenger cabin. This makes the Tarok much more versatile.
We can’t say for sure whether the Volkswagen Tarok pickup truck will come to Gossett VW Germantown in some form or fashion, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
